  • Your San Sebastián cycle tour starts at one of the most iconic buildings in the city: The town hall, Ayuntamiento. Before we take off, you get to mingle with locals, check out the antique carousel, and learn quirky facts like why there are so many small trees in this area, and how San Sebastián is connected to Japan.

We follow the bidegorri bike path along La Concha beach up to the palace of Queen Maria Cristina, before arriving at one of the locals’ favorite beaches in the city: Ondarreta.

From there, your San Sebastián sightseeing tour takes you to the end of the bay, where nature meets civilisation. Discover some Basque modern art before veering through one of the city’s oldest, most authentic neighbourhoods and toward a “secret passage” that connects two parts of the city. You ride through districts that show the many faces of San Sebastián, from the workers’ city to the aristocratic belle époque of the past as you follow the Urumea River back to the city centre, passing villas and bourgeois palaces. You also discover one of the most important buildings ofSan Sebastián, Kursaal — a building that’s linked with a kind of dark past.

As your cycle tour continues, you get to enjoy the wild of the ocean and admire some brave surfers along Zurriola Beach, in the beautiful Gros district. Head toward the port area, one of our favourite places for appreciating the city, and a place where past and present meet (it’s also the entrance to the food heaven of pintxo bars, by the way — very important to know!).

Ride back across the Monte Urgull battlefield and along the old city walls, and finish your San Sebastián cycle adventure down the contemporary Boulevard that separates the Old Town from the new part of the city.

Am happy the tour made me discover some areas I wouldn’t have thought to go to udirng my short stay, and I had lots of tips in general also on places to eat. I would recommend a tour with him if you are in San Sebastian

Mr. Michael M. from USA travelled on 01 Nov 2016:

Basque by Bike more than matched our expectations. Luckily, we did this on our first day in San Sebastian and it opened up so much more of the town for us during our stay. Tomasz, our guide, did a tremendous job showing us ALL parts of the city and he did a great job conveying the history and culture of San Sebastian. I highly recommend Basque by Bike to anybody going to San Sebastian and I suggest you do it early in you stay there. It will really enhance the rest of your visit.

Mrs. Tracey C. from United Kingdom travelled on 30 Oct 2016:

Thomaz was an engaging guide to both adults and children, full of passion and enthusiasm for San Sebastian and Basque life. It was good to see areas not on the well stamped tourist route with lots of variety on a gentle ride. The bikes are of an excellent standard for both cycling and viewing.

Mr. Paul S. from Australia travelled on 19 Oct 2016:

My wife and I have done many cycle tours during our big overseas trip. London, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris and more and This was one of the best. Tomaz and his team provide a wonderful experience and he is just a wonderful guide and leader. You learn a lot more than just history and he does it with a wonderful sense of humour. The bikes were great and the whole thing very easy. If you are in San Sebastián do this cycle tour it’s fantastic.

Mr. James K. from North Ireland travelled on 20 Aug 2016:

We are a family of 2 adults and 3 teenagers. We did the bike tour with Tomasz earlier this week. It was excellent. It is a fantastic way to see and learn about the city. Tomasz is very informative and gave us as much time as we needed. The tour was to take 2 and a half hours but it went over 3 hours. Despite the fact that Tomasz had a 10 day old baby that I am sure he wanted to get home to, he at no point rushed the tour. The bike tour gave us the confidence to rent our own bikes in the days after and cycle the city ourselves. It is certainly the best ay to see a city and we Tomasz made it fun! Would certainly recommend it.

Ms. Rebecca S. from Canada travelled on 19 Aug 2016:

Excellent tour with Thomasz! I learned a lot about the city and Basque culture. It was great to get out of the centre and to the outskirts where the locals live. I highly recommend this tour.

Mrs. Helen E. from United Kingdom travelled on 10 Aug 2016:

Tomas was very enthusiastic and a really lovely, knowledgeable guy. It ended up just being my husband and I on the tour which was great, the bike tour was a brilliant way to see the city and then make plans for the rest of the trip understanding the locations, history, culture etc much better.

Mr. Enzo D. from Australia travelled on 02 Aug 2016:

The bike tour was fantastic- done at just the right pace for everyone to enjoy together with lots of interesting information. Loved it

Mrs. Jayne B. from United Kingdom travelled on 08 Jul 2016:

A really good fun way to get around San Sebastien and learn something of the history and culture of this lovely town. Tomas was an excellent guide.

Mr. Lori G. from USA travelled on 04 Jul 2016:

Tomas’ was a abreast guide. Very knowledgable funny and very fluent in English. We’ve discussed history culture and current events.

Mrs. Linda N. from Australia travelled on 15 Jun 2016:

This tour exceeded my expectations. I was a bit worried about riding a bike for 2+ hours in the heat, but the route was really well thought out and the time just flew past! Tomasz was so knowledgeable about his city, and talked about it with such passion and warmth, it was really lovely. For example, after we had seen the well known parts of San Sebastian, he took us through some less touristy neighbourhoods, and he pointed out the new public housing, and chatted about the design features of the buildings, and how the system works to get the needy into these houses. You could tell he was very proud of them and his city. Tomasz also had a wicked sense of humour which made the tour a lot of fun!

Ms. Pamela D. from USA travelled on 24 Nov 2015:

I signed up for the bike tour in San Sebastian to find out I was the only one who signed up and it was the last tour of the season. It was an amazing treat to have a personal tour of the city and Thomaz was so knowledgeable, fun and was really the highlight of my whole trip. I learned the history of the city along with some fun facts, not only did we tour through the major areas but also got to see how the locals lived. I would highly recommend the bike tour especially with Thomasz!!
